In our agents’ weekly meeting this week we talked about safe (COVID appropriate) gifts to give our new homeowners this season and we found ourselves a little stumped at first. Everyone loves baked goods and that’s usually a fantastic gift – Easy to make – Everyone* loves snacks. Not everyone feels the safest receiving these kinds of gifts during this abnormal time – Whoever thought cookies would feel a little scary?
I got the gears turning to figure out what would be an optimal COVID housewarming gift and here is what it comes down to folks – washable and wrapped is the way to go.
Scarves, gloves, and hats fall in the washable category. The weather in PA is at the point of being chilly and crisp in the morning to still blistering by the mid-afternoon. These items are simple enough but go the extra mile to show the person you are gifting them to you are thinking about their comfort this season.
Still into the food gift idea? I don’t blame you, you can’t go wrong with food. Sticking some hot cocoa packs and Keurig cups into a coffee mug is a simple classic. If you love the personal element cooking and baking brings to the table, add a handwritten recipe you don’t mind sharing. Herb seeds to plant is a safe way to add to any meal with a little thought of you in their dish!
Along with the planting idea – Bouquets are truly the original gift and now is the time to break these bad boys out. Any season, any occasion, pretty flowers in a vase, or well-grown house plants are there to liven up the home! Mums are the perfect potted flower to place on the front porch to give it a little bit of festive fall flair.
Six or so months into this public health emergency we could be running low on our COVID supply arsenal – a basket with some hand sanitizers, masks, disinfectants (toilet paper if you want a little laugh, at least 2 ply if you like the person.) Anything else to help keep the home clean and germ-free is acceptable! Want it to be more cozy than sterile? A fall pampering kit: Candles, lotions, Lip-balms, hydrating face masks, and, hand soaps are perfect. To go the extra mile to encourage the “stay in” mindset, a monthly subscription to Disney+, coupled with an ubereats, door dash, postmates (whatever is available in your area) gift cards sounds like a great night in to really enjoy the new house!
Hopefully, these triggered some gift ideas to flow. Don’t forget a handwritten note goes a long way. Every person is different, a personalized gift showing you put time and thought into it is the best way to go regardless of our current world situation.
